Lerchenhof Castle is a building erected between 1848 and 1851 as a mansion in Untermöschach, a village in the municipality of Hermagor-Pressegger See in Carinthia. The listed building is now used as an inn and hotel.

history

The Lerchenhof is in Untermöschach on the road to Weißbriach, about two kilometers from the city center of Hermagor. The building was erected from 1848 to 1851 as the mansion of Baron Julius von Wodley, son of the mining industrialist Bartholomäus Wodley , who died a few years earlier , for his upcoming marriage. The builder was probably Domenico Venchiarutti . Wodley died in a hunting accident before the Lerchenhof was completed. Through inheritance and marriage, the Lerchenhof came into the possession of the immediately adjacent Steinwender farm. In 1928 the entire ownership of the Steinwender estate was divided between two sons. Hans Steinwender took over the Lerchenhof. He ran the farm, made a special contribution to horse breeding and did a lot of public relations work. The Lerchenhof is still owned by his descendants.

In 1939 the Lerchenhof was placed under monument protection. It is officially designated as "Lerchenhof Palace" by the Monument Protection Office. Today the building is used as an inn and hotel.

Building description

Lerchenhof Palace is a prime example of late classicist - Biedermeier architecture in Carinthia. The building, which was built on a rectangular floor plan, has three floors. The front has seven window axes, with the three central axes of Tuscan pilasters combined to form a slightly protruding risalit , which is crowned by a large triangular gable. In the gable there is a painted coat of arms and the year 1631. The facade is plastered, the ground floor is grooved and closed by a profiled cornice . The ground floor windows are recessed, the upper floor windows are crowned by strong roofs. Only the middle upper floor window is round-arched like the portal.
