Domenico Venchiarutti (born September 2, 1790 in Osoppo , Friuli , † February 9, 1859 in Klagenfurt ) was an Italian builder.

Life

He created numerous buildings in Klagenfurt and the rest of Carinthia . Until 1846 he lived in the house on Kardinalschütt number 3 in Klagenfurt. It was also the home of the builders Christoforo Cragnolino , Alois Cargnelutti and Luigi Cargnelutti from Friuli Venezia Giulia .

The Klagenfurt master builder Christoforo Cragnolini used to prefer to employ Friulian bricklayers. Giovanni Domenico Venchiarutti worked for him from 1823 at the latest. He mostly called himself Domenico, was the son of a master mason and was born around 1790 in Osoppo . He was still a bachelor when he came to Klagenfurt. Cragnolini took him into his house at No. 3 Kardinalplatz. He stayed there even after his marriage to the Klagenfurt tanner's daughter Maria Josepha John. Venchiarutti managed very quickly to gain a foothold in the city, which at that time had around 10,000 souls. As early as 1828 he was listed as a master mason in the Klagenfurt Citizens Register, and in 1840 an official statement from him said that he had already acquired "important possessions" in the city. He owned his house in the Villach suburb on the former moat. It was a fairly stately three-story building. The house at Villacher Ring No. 11 with a late empire facade and a classicist tower was built around 1830 and was later owned by the von Vest and Dr. Josef Plantl, the slightly elevated house at Villacher Ring No. 31 was built in 1842. The entrepreneur had his own stonemason in the nearby Linsengasse . One of the most striking building creations by Venchiarutti was the building diagonally across from Villacher Ring No. 31 on Villacher Damm, with classicist corner reinforcements, fluted pilasters and the windows with narrow triangular gables on the first floor (today Dorotheum). The master builder built the Feuerbachfluder on Theaterplatz, and in 1851 he built the Elisabeth Bridge over the Lend Canal . He also demonstrated his skills at Mageregg Castle . He completed the work after the death of the Völkermarkt master builder Rudolfi, who converted and extended the aristocratic residence for the cloth manufacturer Thomas Ritter von Moro . In his second marriage, Venchiarutti was married to Maria Mandl. The builder closed his eyes at the age of 69 on February 5, 1859 in his house at Villacher Ring No. 31. The widow, who died at the age of 80 in 1888, continued to run the business. The stonemasonry was sold to the merchant Ohrfandl.
