Bartholomäus Wodley (born August 21, 1759 in Kranj , Slovenia , † February 4, 1841 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian lawyer and trade . His specialty was mining law . As a consultant for various trades and masters , he gained deep insights into this branch of industry with its risks and opportunities. Eventually he joined these entrepreneurs and became a factory owner.

Life

In 1800 Wodley bought the hammer mill on the Gössering in Gitschtal and converted it into a rolling mill . In 1832 he also acquired the Grünburg hammer mill . The products mainly went to Tyrol , Trieste and Northern Italy. Bartholomäus Wodley was married to Marie Schlieber (1772-1849) from Klagenfurt since 1790. She bore him three sons and five daughters. Of the sons, Karl and Julius remained bachelors; the first-born Adolf was married, but died in 1859 without a male heir.

The daughter Wilhelmine, who came from the marriage, married the public prosecutor and member of the state parliament Artur Breyche. Of the five trade daughters, Anna became the wife of the historian Gottlieb Freiherr von Ankershofen, Maria the wife of the officer and owner of the Langg estate , Adolf von Platzer, Emilie entered into a bond with Colonel Wilhelm von Trost, and Karoline had the officer Hieronimus von Lang to the man. Auguste, born on November 1, 1802, remained single. With her death on May 28, 1881, the name Wodley in Carinthia became extinct . Because of several generous foundations for a dozen poor people and the student youth, her name was a household name for a long time.

She had bequeathed the air courtyard in Klagenfurt's Bahnhofstrasse to the Elisabethinenkloster, along with the disreputable inn frequented by the seedy people who were not allowed to be seen in the city's police station . The convent had a new building built with six residential units as early as 1883. In memory of the testator , it was named Augustenhof. In Klagenfurt , St. Veiter Straße from Heuplatz to St. Veiter Ring was called Wodleygasse.

The Wodley property was impressive: In addition to the industrial facilities and realities , Ebner's mining in Bad Bleiberg was added in the 1840s . The widow Wodley - her husband had died on February 4, 1841 - had her sister Maria Ebner nee. Schlieber, main trade in Bad Bleiberg, inherited.
