Obermayerhofen Castle is located in southeast Austria in the Styrian Thermenland in the village of Sebersdorf in the municipality of Bad Waltersdorf . The castle , located within a 170,000 m² park , is operated as a castle hotel by the Counts Kottulinsky.

history

Obermayerhofen Castle emerged from a former Meierhof , which developed into a knight's seat and was well fortified . It was first mentioned in a document in 1315. Heinrich Mayerhofer, Bishop of Gurk and Provost of St. Stefan in Vienna was named as the owner .

In 1377 the von Teuffenbach bought and expanded the surrounding manor through continuous acquisitions in the course of their over 200-year ownership. As early as the beginning of the 16th century, the properties were devastated in the course of the Turkish invasions . The castle could not be rebuilt until 1574 after Servaz von Teuffenbach had reunited the property. Both he and his wife Katharina von Herberstein died childless, so that ownership changed several times until 1777.

Josef Graf Kottulinsky finally acquired the castle and the associated lordship . In 1924 it went to the Baroness von Taulow.

Castle Hotel Obermayerhofen

In 1977 it was acquired again by Count Harald Kottulinsky, who converted the castle into a hotel. The hotel distinguishes itself in particular as a wedding location, with the baroque palace chapel.
