Niamina West is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 6,942 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 6,630.
The name is derived from Niamina - a former small Mandinka empire.

According to a survey from 1993 (census at the time), the largest population group is that of the Fula with a share of around six tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Wolof. The distribution in detail: 27.3% Mandinka , 57.6% Fula , 11% Wolof , 0.1% Jola , 1.1% Serahule , 0.5% Serer , 0% Aku , 0.4% Manjago , 1 , 2% Bambara and 0.8% other races.
