Nianija (spelling variant: Nianija Kuntaur ) is one of 35 districts - the second-highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region .

According to a calculation from 2013 about 9,695 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 8,205.

According to a survey from 1993 (census at the time), the largest population group is that of the Fula with a share of around seven-tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Wolof. The distribution in detail: 17% Mandinka , 71.8% Fula , 10.7% Wolof , 0.2% Jola , 0.2% Serahule , 0% Serer , 0% Aku , 0% Manjago , 0% Bambara and 0 % other races.
