Sami (spelling variant: Sami Kuntaur ) is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region .

According to a calculation from 2013 about 21,229 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 19,157.

According to a survey from 1993 (census at that time), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around six tenths, followed by the Fula and the Wolof. The distribution in detail: 55% Mandinka , 29.9% Fula , 12% Wolof , 0.3% Jola , 0.4% Serahule , 0% Serer , 0% Aku , 0% Manjago , 0.5% Bambara and 2 % other races.

Seyfo

Seyfo or Chief of the district was Kassum Leigh until his death on January 4, 2013 , he replaced Seyfo Morro Jawla on April 22, 2008 .
