Obernitz Castle

Obernitz Castle stood on the site of today's castle in need of renovation on a narrow rock terrace in the Saale valley east of the Saale and the federal road 85 .
history
The tower castle Obernitz was mentioned as early as 1152. The Lords of Obernitz have also been found in documents since 1258. Their property went to the Lords of Thüna in 1534 . They built a renaissance castle on the site of the castle . This still serves as a residence for several families (owned by the Clemm von Hohenberg family since 2004).
On the south side there is a square tower with a baroque dome. Its lower parts probably date from the late Middle Ages . In the courtyard there is a spiral stair tower next to the entrance .
