The Castle Petzenkirchen is a castle in the market town Petzenkirchen in Lower Austria . The castle building is a listed building .

history

The castle, which was formerly surrounded by a moat, was essentially built in the late medieval early modern period. In a document, a Daniel von Petzenkirchen was named in 1285. The castle went to Adam von Gabelkover in 1628. In 1823 Emperor Franz I bought the castle for the patrimonial fund. In 1945 the Federal Research Institute for Cultural Technology and Technical Soil Science was established in the castle. An extension from 1953 was connected to the old building with a narrow wing. From 1999 onwards, a complete repair was carried out with a conversion with a courtyard roof.

The two-storey, undivided building with flush lattice windows and a cordon cornice has a three-storey, half-set, compact facade and gate tower under a tent roof with a beveled round arch portal from the 1st half of the 16th century. The tower shows a sgraffito by the painter Sepp Zöchling . On the north side is a painted coat of arms Gabelkover (1690).

The passage to the small courtyard is vaulted with groin vaults and the staircase is vaulted with groin vaults and mesh vaults. There are flat ceilings on the upper floor of the old building. There are remains of a wooden beam ceiling with a joist with notch cut decoration from the 1st half of the 17th century.
