Plaix Castle

The Plaix castle belongs to the commune of Saint-Hilaire-en-Lignières in the French department of Cher and is located near the Arnon on the D65 coming from Lignières . The small moated castle stands since November 1995 in parts as a monument historique under monument protection and is home to a folklore museum, which organizes temporary exhibitions on a regular basis. The owner is the "groupe folklorique des Thiaulins de Lignières".

Probably as early as 1220 the fief of Plaix was given as an apanage to the leading noble families of "Lignieres en Berry". The current castle and moat have their origins in the 16th century. In particular, the Chatre and Tailhandier von Plaix families have gradually changed the original structure. The renovations and expansions carried out show the effort to maintain the original flair. As a result, however, there are several different architectural styles on the building.

In more recent times the building has fallen into disrepair and was finally left in 1961 by the last owner to the "Thiaulins de Lignières en Berry". A long time of restoration began for the new owners . After the work was completed, a folklore museum was set up in the castle, which has set itself the task of keeping regional art and traditions of past rural times alive.
