Prieborn Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prieborn Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Przewornie ) is located in the rural community of Przeworno (German Prieborn ) in the Powiat Strzeliński ( Strehlen district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . Historically it belonged to the Duchy of Brieg .

history

The castle goes back to a stone castle that the von Czirn ( Tschirn ) built in the 15th century on the southeastern edge of the village on the Kryhnbach ( Krynka ). In 1543 it was converted into a palace in the Renaissance style with an inner courtyard and corner towers. During the Thirty Years War it was looted and partially destroyed by the Swedes in 1643 . After the death of Duke Georg Wilhelm I , his possessions, to which Prieborn belonged, fell to the Crown of Bohemia as a settled fief by reversion .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Prieborn and most of Silesia fell to Prussia. The Prussian King Friedrich II transferred the rule of Rummelsberg , to which Prieborn belonged, to the Berlin Charité . She used the castle until 1945 as the seat of the general tenant and as apartments for the domain officials .

As a result of the Second World War , Prieborn fell to Poland together with Silesia in 1945. The castle was nationalized and offices and apartments for the local PGR were set up in it. Later the castle was left to decay. After the political change , the ruinous castle was privatized and sold.

The existing structure includes a portal from the period of construction , a cartouche and a stone bridge from the 18th century on the site of the former moat. Around the castle is a neglected landscape park from the 19th century.
