history

Reinsberg Castle in the 19th century
Reinsberg Castle, 1989

As early as 1197, the seat of a knightly lord family was here. The castles in Reinsberg and Bieberstein still bear witness to this today . When the Reinsberg Castle was built and who was its founder has not yet been proven with certainty. However, it is considered very likely that the origin of the place and the castle is owed to a German noble named Reinhardt, who built a castle on this place, under whose protection farmers gradually settled.

location

The difficult-to-access steep slope above the Bobritzsch is probably the reason that a castle-like fortification was built here. From the unprotected east side, the castle was secured by a moat that could only be crossed by a drawbridge . A mighty tower towered over the building.

possession

The first owners of the Reinsberg manor were Mr. Reinsberg . The rule of the Reinsbergers did not last long. They lost large parts of their ancestral home as early as the 14th century. These shares were acquired by the Schönbergers in 1404 , who also took over the rest in 1411. The castle thus passed into the possession of the Schönbergers, who lived at Reinsberg Castle for over 500 years. This also included a farm in Krummenhennersdorf that was run as its own manor . In 1572 the property in Oberreinsberg was divided with the Reinsberg Castle and Niederreinsberg with the Niederreinsberg manor. Reinsberg (Ober- and Niederreinsberg), Dittmannsdorf , Drehfeld (zu Niederreinsberg), the Wolfsgrün settlement mentioned from 1780 (in the corridor of Oberreinsberg) and the more distant exclaves Wüsthetzdorf and Obercunnersdorf belonged to the estate of Reinsberg .

During the GDR era, the castle was a holiday home for the Schwarze Pump combine . After 1990, a Spanish investor bought the castle who wanted to renovate it and set up a hotel, but this did not happen; it was then offered for sale. In October 2019, the community used its right of first refusal and thus prevented use by the Identitarian Movement . The purchase price was given as around 500,000 euros.

The park is open to walkers. The water park located behind the park is since 1978 the outdoor pool for holiday guests and residents of Reinberg and the surrounding area and is located right next to the nature reserve grave Tour .
