Saint-Aignan Castle
The Saint-Aignan castle belongs to the French commune of Saint-Aignan in the Loir-et-Cher department .
As early as the 11th century, the Counts of Blois fortified the rock above the Cher River and thus dominated the traffic routes in the area for a long time. During the Renaissance period , the Dukes of Saint-Aignan made the place their residence. The Lords of Husson built the present castle in the late 15th and early 16th centuries .
The two wings of the new castle, arranged at right angles, were attached to the medieval fortifications on the east side of the courtyard. Except for a western pavilion, the facility was largely preserved. The Renaissance wing looks particularly graceful with its pilaster-framed windows and its porticos with decorated gables . In the 19th century a suitably designed stair tower was added, but this damaged the harmony of the castle courtyard.
Since 30 July 1946, the plant is a monument historique under monument protection .
