The Saint-Saphorin Castle (also called Château de Mestral ) is located in the town of the same name, Saint-Saphorin-sur-Morges (municipality of Echichens ) in the canton of Vaud .
The classical building was built in the 17th century on the remains of a fortified house. At the beginning of the 16th century, two ruling families shared the area on which the castle would later be built: the aristocrats of Saint-Saphorin and those of Colombier . That is why it has two watchtowers today . The Colombier ceased to own the property in the mid-16th century when Marguerite von Colombier married François d'Allinges. Their daughter, Elisabeth d'Allinges, married André de Pesmes in 1592, a member of a noble family from Franche-Comté that had been established in Geneva since the 14th century . It was not until 1711 that François-Louis de Pesmes succeeded in uniting the rulers around the area of the castle. After his death in 1737, the castle and his daughter Judith-Louise de Pesmes became the property of the de Mestral family . Her son was Armand François Louis de Mestral de Saint-Saphorin .
