The first mention of a stone castle comes from the year 1380 on the occasion of a transaction between Heinrich von Falkenberg and Peter Heidenreich about the land near the church in the old town near Zilz (Biala) . This former Fliehburg was expanded in the 15th century to a water castle with a curtain wall, Flanckenecktürmen and a moat.

After the Opole Piasts had died out , the castle came into the possession of Wenzel Posadowski in 1559 and then belonged to the Counts of Proskau (Pruszkowski) . Expansion plans for the castle complex originate from the years 1605 and 1608, but these were not implemented. From 1694 the castle was converted into a four-winged baroque moated castle and now served as a residence.

The palace was sold to the Prussian crown as a state domain in 1769 . From 1816 the state domain was leased to the Heller family. The south wing was torn down at the end of the 19th century. This gave the property the shape of a horseshoe.

In the spring of 1945 the castle was sacked by Soviet soldiers. After the country became part of the People's Republic of Poland, the castle was temporarily used as a residential building. The building has been empty since the 1960s and is deteriorating into a ruin. The building was listed as a historical monument in 1959. In 1977 the roof and ceiling collapsed as a result of a storm. In 1987 an outer wall collapsed. In 2000, the first attempt to save the building was started, which was directed by the forest inspectorate in Proskau. In 2006 the property was sold to a private investor. Two years later the castle became the property of the "Center for the Dialogue of Cultures". Today mostly only the outer walls are still standing. The original vaults inside have collapsed.
