Schelitz ( Polish Chrzelice ) is a village in the municipality of Zülz in the Powiat Prudnicki in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

The street village of Schelitz is located in the south of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is located about 9 kilometers northeast of the Zülz municipality , about 20 kilometers northeast of the district town of Prudnik and about 27 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Schelitz lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Kotlina Raciborska (Ratibor Basin) in the Równina Niemodlińska ( Falkenberg Plain ). The Droga wojewódzka 414 road runs east of the town . The Zülzer water (Polish: Biała ) flows south of the village .

The village was founded in the second half of the 13th century and first mentioned in 1316. In the Middle Ages there was a moated castle south of the town center, which was probably built by the Templars. In 1531 the place was mentioned as Chrzelitze .

In the 17th century the castle was converted into a baroque moated castle. After the First Silesian War in 1742, Schelitz came with most of Silesia to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Schelitz belonged to the district of Neustadt OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a castle, a brewery, a distillery, a Catholic school, a hunter's house, a sub-forestry, a Vorwerk and another 66 houses in the village, then mentioned as Chrzelitz . In the same year 910 people lived in Schelitz, 48 of them Protestant and five Jewish. In 1855 949 people lived in Schelitz. In 1874 the administrative district Chrzelitz I was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Brzesnitz, Chrzelitz, Legelsdorf, Loncznik and Pogorz and the manor districts Brzesnitz Vorwerk, Fronzke and Chrzelitz. The first head of office was the senior bailiff Alexander Heller in Chrzelitz. In 1885 Schelitz had 939 inhabitants.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 777 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 32 for Poland, in the Schelitz manor district 39 people voted for Germany and no one for Poland. Schelitz remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 1035 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 1,048 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neustadt OS

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Chrzelice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the powiat Prudnicki . In 2008, the place was also given the official German place name Schelitz .
