Sorquitten Castle
Sorquitten Castle ( Polish Pałac w Sorkwitach ) is a castle in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , between Lake Lampasch (Jezioro Lampackie) and Lake Gehland (Jezioro Gielądzkie).
history
The first recorded owners were those of Oelsen , to whom the location was awarded by Grand Master Winrich von Kniprode . Later owners were the von Schlieben , from 1599 the von Eggloffsteins . In 1693, Sorquitten was acquired by Albrecht von der Groeben , and in 1750 by General von Bronikowsky . The manor house was built in 1768 by Johann Siegismund von Bronikowsky .
From 1804 the estate was owned by Baron von Mirbach . From 1855 to 1856 the mansion was redesigned in the English Gothic style with red brick. Julius von Mirbach became heir in 1862 and had the park area expanded. The castle burned down at the beginning of the First World War , but was restored in 1920. The last German owner was Baron Bernhard von Paleske.
After the Second World War , the estate became part of an agricultural production cooperative and was transferred to the 'Ursus' agricultural machinery factory in Warsaw in 1957 . The castle has been privately owned since 1998.
