Schlieben is the name of an old German noble family from the Untergau Zlivin (now Amt Schlieben ). The name changed between Sleben , Zlewin , Zliw , Zlivn , Zlywine , Sliwen , Slieben , Schleyben , Slyben , Zlowin and Schlieben .

Oldest representatives

The family was derived from Castle Schlieben , which at that time belonged to Niederlausitz . The oldest known member of the family today was Otto de Sleben , who was mentioned in 1144 on the crusade to the Holy Land.

Liebschützer Line
The oldest line of trunks known today begins with Gumprecht von Schlieben on Dobnoslo (called near Senftenberg , 1269, † 1279), Burgvogt on Liebschütz an der Mulde in the Ascanian Duchy of Saxony . His descendants formed the Liebschütz line of the sex.

Mühlberg line
A Hans von Schlieben auf Mühlberg and Prettin , captain in Jüterbog († 1458) was the oldest known representative of the Mühlberg line today . Prussian Line

Saxon Line
His eldest son Georg († 1521) founded the Saxon line , whose son Eustachius († 1568) was the most important councilor of the Brandenburg Elector Joachim II and confidante of Luther.
