Liborius von Schlieben (Latin Liborius de Sliven ; † April 27, 1486 in Berlin ) was electoral councilor in Brandenburg and Bishop of Lebus (1484–1486).

Life

Liborius came from Stülpe near Baruth , then in the Electorate of Saxony , from the von Schlieben family . There is no record of his parents. He was a cousin of the Provost of Lebus Balthasar von Schlieben .

In 1461 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig and in 1464/65 acquired the degree of Baccalaureus. Since 1467 he studied in Bologna , was there in 1470 and received his doctorate in 1473 procurator to the doctor of canon law and before the end of 1474 to the doctor of rights .

Afterwards Liborius was endowed with a pastor's position in Cottbus . From 1476 he was councilor to Elector Albrecht von Brandenburg and Canon in Lebus , then also councilor to Margrave Johann von Brandenburg . In the following years he ruled in legal matters on behalf of Margrave Johann and was en route as envoy for Johann and Albrecht.

In 1483 Liborius was elected Bishop of Lebus and confirmed by the Pope on January 26, 1484. He was first named as a bishop in April. Liborius died in 1486 in Berlin and was in the cathedral to Fürstenwalde buried. However, his grave was no longer known in the 19th century. Later authors accused him of great wastefulness at the expense of the diocese.
