Ulvsunda Castle (or Ulfsunda ) is a magnificent building in Stockholm 's Bromma district . The building was constructed between 1644 and 1647 under the owner of the property at the time, Field Marshal Lennart Torstensson . Torstensson was also the builder for a palace on Gustav-Adolf-Platz in central Stockholm, which was later converted into the Prince's Palace .

Ulvsunda Castle was completed shortly after Torstensson returned from the Thirty Years' War . The building of the castle was a kind of prestige competition between Torstensson and Councilor Åke Axelsson from the Natt och Dag family . The latter had Åkeshov Castle built. At that time the castle had a steep roof made of copper plates. It was in the German-Dutch Renaissance style and the facades were decorated with al fresco paintings depicting Roman warriors with weapons.

In 1772 the Torstensson family lost the castle and the other owners included the Bielke , Gyllenkrook, Rudenschöld and Ruuth families . Under Baron von Essen , who bought the castle at the beginning of the 19th century, the roof was replaced and the wall paintings were covered with plaster.

Baron Gustaf Åkerhielm , who was Swedish Prime Minister from 1889 to 1891, was the last noble owner of the castle. After the provincial administration at the time bought the castle, a home was set up for alcohol-dependent and mentally ill people. After the nursing home was closed in 1972, it was renovated and then the castle was used as a training center.

In 1999 the castle fell into private ownership and was renovated again before it was sold in 2003 to the Svensk Inredning company, which organized courses, conferences and parties and set up exhibition rooms here. Today the castle is managed by the Fazer Konferens company .

Ulvsunda is the oldest written place name in the Stockholm area, it is mentioned on a rune stone from the 11th century.
