The Würmla Castle is located in the village Würmla in the district of Tulln in Lower Austria . The former castle and today's municipal office is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In a document in the 14th century a mansion of the Lords of Pain was mentioned . In a document, a castle was named as a princely fiefdom in 1365. 1523 owned by the Protestant Kornfail family. 1730 was a re-Catholicization of the dominion under the nobles of Mayenberg. A castle chapel was documented in 1742. The castle was rebuilt under Adolf Freiherr von Seidler. In 1916 the castle went to Heinrich Mendl as co-owner of Ankerbrot . In 1925 the castle was the Stefan Mendl rest home of the postal union and in 1953 a rest home for the anchor bread factory. In 1970 the castle became the property of the municipality.

A new castle was built over a moated castle from the 16th century in 1894 according to the plans of the architect Johann Julius Romano Ritter vonringen . From 2000 to 2002 it was converted into apartments.

The three-wing palace complex in the south of the village was originally surrounded by a park.

The two-storey, uniformly historically façade complex with a basement shows itself in the north with the main front with a five-axis central projection , the side wings face south. The east wing has a gable roof with a triangular gable . The west wing has a hipped roof , the wing was extended in the 20th century with a vaulted porch with a loggia on the upper floor.

Inside the castle there is a representative foyer with wood paneling and a stuccoed ceiling and a spacious central staircase with a two-armed staircase. The flat ceilings show some subtle stucco with rosettes.
