Wirrwitz Castle

Schloss Wirrwitz ( Polish Pałac w Wierzbicach ) is a castle in Wierzbice (German Wirrwitz ) in the rural municipality Kobierzyce ( Koberwitz ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

The name of the place appears for the first time mentioned in 1358 in the land register of the Duchy of Breslau , the family of Wirbicz is documented as early as 1310. From 1324 the Vorwerk Wirrwitz was a right of inheritance.

The oldest part of today's building is probably the east wing, the renaissance portal and scratched plaster ornaments of which suggest it was built around 1600. In 1730, on behalf of Baron von Hundt, according to plans by Christoph Hackner, the building was expanded into a horseshoe-shaped complex using single-storey wing structures. The north side became the nine-axis main building with a protruding middle section and bears the coat of arms of Baron von Hundt and the year 1730 on the front.

The triangular gables disappeared as a result of classical renovation and the previous mansard roof became a simple crown roof . On both sides of the palace there are symmetrical cavalier houses with a half-hip roof .
