Castle de Mont
The Castle de Mont ( Romansh Casti de Mont ) is located in the center of Vella in the Val Lumnezia in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The building is under the protection of the canton and the federal government.
history
The castle was rebuilt in 1666 after a conflagration by the widow of Melchior de Mont , Margaretha von Mont, née von Schauenstein and Ehrenfels . This is evident from an inscription in the mural on the northeast facade. In its place stood an older stone house of unknown construction date before the fire.
In 1983 the roof was re-covered with Eternit stone shingles, and the baroque stucco hatches and the wind vanes were restored. Between 1993 and 1996 several interiors and facades were restored.
construction
The palatial building has a steep hipped roof . The tower on the southern corner with its sgraffiti was added later. It only sets an architectural accent and does not serve as a staircase.
Each floor has a vaulted central corridor. The natural stone slab floors in the intermediate corridors date from before 1666. The magnificent paneling with coffered ceiling from the large room is now in the National Museum Zurich .
