The Schlossalmbahn has been a monocable gondola since 2018 , which leads from Bad Hofgastein in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the state of Salzburg in Austria in 2 sections up to the Kleine Scharte . It opened on December 1, 2018. The former lower section was a funicular . It was removed in 2018.

history

Today's Schlossalmbahn had the Schlossalmlift as a forerunner. It consisted of three sections. Since this system no longer met today's requirements, the Schlossalmbahn was built. It was a combination of a funicular and an aerial tramway . The first section was the Schlossalm funicular and the second section is the Schlossalm aerial tramway.

Funicular

Funicular valley station

The funicular "Schlossalmbahn I" was opened on September 15, 1964 and overcame a height difference of 459 m. At that time it was able to transport 78 people per car. In 1983 the funicular was equipped with new cars, increasing the capacity to 120 people per car. The two cars were able to pass each other halfway through an Abt switch .

The last ride of the 54-year-old funicular took place on Easter Sunday, April 2, 2018. In the following summer of 2018, the funicular was dismantled as part of the Schlossalmbahn NEW project and replaced by a monocable gondola. The two funicular railway cars, which were 35 years old at the time, are to be used as museums.

Aerial tramway

The “Schlossalmbahn III” (formerly “Schlossambahn II”) aerial tramway was opened on December 15, 1966 and built by Waagner-Biro . It can carry 828 people and 70 people per gondola in one hour. The journey time from the “Kitzstein” valley station (1302 m) to the “Kleine Scharte” mountain station (2050 m) is 5 minutes, with an altitude difference of 748 m being overcome. The ropes rest on three supports, the carrying rope has a diameter of 34 mm and the traction rope 36 mm. It is driven by two motors with an output of 370 kW each.

The aerial tramway has been running parallel to it since the opening of the monocable gondola, while its name was changed from "Schlossalmbahn II" to "Schlossalmbahn III".

Monocable gondola

The “Schlossalmbahn I & Schlossalmbahn II” monocable gondola lifts opened on December 1, 2018 and were built by Doppelmayr . It is equipped with 10-seater gondolas and can transport 3000 people per hour. The monocable cable car leads from the valley station (834 m) via the middle station “Kitzstein” (1302 m) to the mountain station “Kleine Scharte” (2061 m) and overcomes a difference in altitude of 1218 m. Your mountain station was built north of the mountain station of the aerial tramway and 11 m higher. This created new piste connections.
