Kind Hillery
Arthur "Art" Hillery (born October 31, 1925 in New Orleans ; † November 23, 2011 ) was an American jazz pianist , organist and composer .
Life
Hillery, born in New Orleans in 1925, started out as a classical pianist. Influenced by Oscar Peterson , he switched to jazz . He has worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles since the early 1960s, where he worked a. a. with recordings by Ella Fitzgerald ( The Best Is Yet to Come 1982), Milt Jackson , Sonny Stitt , Red Holloway , Sweets Edison , Papa John Creach , Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson , Eddie Lockjaw Davis , Tom Waits ( Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards 2006) and Teddy Edwards , for which he also contributed compositions. He wrote the title Bug To Put 'n Yo' Year for Jimmy Witherspoon . Shortly before his death in November 2011, he released his debut album The Works of Art .
