The Schlosspark-Klinik is a privately owned general hospital for acute and standard care with emergency room that was opened in 1970 in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg . When it opened on November 6, 1970, it was the first general private clinic in Berlin, but then as now it was also open to those with statutory health insurance. It owes its name to the close proximity to the park of the Charlottenburg Palace .

history

Although there were already other health care facilities near the location of the Schlosspark Clinic, such as the Women's Clinic of the Free University and the Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria Infant Home, it was initially planned as a hotel. A group of private investors wanted to build a hotel on the corner of Budapester and Nürnberger Straße in Berlin-Charlottenburg in 1968. A building application for a hotel was not approved for private investors, the Berlin health administration proposed instead that a hospital be opened. This resulted in the unusual circumstance for the time that the 24 million DM expensive construction of the hospital was financed entirely privately.

The Schlosspark Clinic opened on November 6, 1970, with a capacity of 400 beds and five specialist departments. At the time of its opening, the hospital had a number of innovations that were remarkable for that time: no patient room had more than four beds, the single and double rooms were equipped with radio and television connections, their own bathrooms and balconies. A swimming pool was also available to the patients. A nursing home with 147 apartments was built for the nursing staff.

In the course of time there were several renovations and new buildings. Eight years after opening, the Schlosspark Hotel was added in 1978. In 1983 computed tomography was introduced, in 1998 all stations were provided with winter gardens. After several new operating theaters were built in 2003/04, a new bed wing was built in 2009. An emergency room was opened in 2010 .

In 1994, the chief surgeon, Volker Lange , was the first surgeon in Germany to operate with a new type of ultrasonic scalpel. In the same year, the Schlosspark Clinic was ranked number one among the tested clinics in Berlin-Brandenburg in the Focus Hospital Report . In 1997 the Park-Klinik Weißensee opened in the Berlin district of Weißensee as a partner facility, which is managed jointly with the Schlosspark-Klinik, but otherwise operates independently.
