The Schluttenbacher Linde is a natural monument in Ettlingen in the district of Karlsruhe . Despite uncertain tradition, it is probably one of the oldest linden trees in Germany and is located in Schluttenbach , a district of Ettlingen.

This specimen of the summer linden tree ( Tilia platyphyllos ) is protected as a natural monument under the name Linden und Dorfbrunnen in the Brunnengärtle .

location

The linden tree stands just behind the entrance to the village and, together with the linden tree fountain, forms the most important landmark of Schluttenbach.

history

According to the local history researcher and city chronicler Wolfgang Lorch, the linden tree is said to have been described as eleven hundred years old or over 900 years old, which, in his opinion, could not be.

According to a plaque on the tree, the linden tree is said to have been planted in 937. The first mention of the Lindenbrunnen in Schöllbronn village law comes from the year 1485. In 1867, the summit of the village linden tree was torn down during a storm and the roofs of the houses opposite were smashed. In order to achieve a new crown, the remaining strong branches were brought up again. Iron bands were also attached to the linden tree in the 1930s and the trunk was lined in 1940. This lining was removed again in 1976.

The tree surgeon Alexander Volgger from Munich has treated the linden tree every two years since 1958 .
