Schluttenbach has been a district of the large district town of Ettlingen in the district of Karlsruhe since 1974 .

etymology

The ending "-bach" indicates that Schluttenbach is located on a stream, the Beierbach. Since the stream has hardly any gradient on its upper course, the valley floor becomes swampy after heavy rain. Such damp places were called "Schlutt". In the oldest document (from 1346) the village name is written as Sluttenbach . Schluthenbach was written in the 15th century and Sluttenbach again in 1527 , after which the current form of name has prevailed.

geography

Schluttenbach is surrounded by a clearing island almost five kilometers south of the city center of Ettlingen on the western edge of the northern Black Forest . The village is located on the left slope of the Beierbach, which is emerging on the edge of the village and here initially runs northwards, at heights between 320 and 395  m above sea level. NN . The local marker extends in a wedge-shaped spout over the forest in the south to almost the Rimmelsbacher Hof in the Malsch community . In this forest there is also the one at about 410  m above sea level on the top of a water reservoir . NN highest point of the district, the lowest at the outflow of the Beierbach to about 295  m above sea level. NN .

history

1000 years ago today's Schluttenbach was still covered by a continuous forest. It consisted mainly of beech and oak, conifers have only existed for the last centuries. The founding time is around 1200. The first documentary mention was in 1346. It is possible that Schluttenbach is a daughter settlement of Schöllbronn , as the distance between these two villages is shorter than z. B. the distance Schöllbronn- Spessart or Schöllbronn-Völkersbach. Spessart, Schöllbronn and Völkersbach were clearing villages. The place of today's village has attracted mainly farmers with cattle because of the spring, but also because of the protected valley location.

Until 1346 the village belonged to the Lords of Remchingen . In 1346 it became part of Württemberg. From 1457 it was completely surrounded by Baden villages and towns. Until 1461 there was a legal dispute between the Counts of Württemberg and the Margraves of Baden. During this time there was also a dispute over Ettlingenweier, Sulzbach and Schöllbronn. In 1528 Schluttenbach became Baden.

On October 1, 1974, Schluttenbach was incorporated into the city of Ettlingen.

religion

The linden tree, supposedly planted in 937

Most of the residents are Catholic; in the past the entire population was Catholic. From 1461 to 1528 Schluttenbach belonged to the St. Bonifatius Church in Schöllbronn. Since Schluttenbach became Baden in 1528, the Schluttenbachers now belonged to the St. Dionysius Church in Ettlingenweier. The way to the church was now longer than before, which is why many went to Schöllbronn or Völkersbach. When Schluttenbach was supposed to belong to the St. Boniface Church again, the Schöllbronners refused to accept the Schluttenbachers again. So a compromise was agreed between Schluttenbach, Schöllbronn and Ettlingenweier. Schöllbronn took over the catechism lessons, the visits to the sick and the mistakes. Ettlingenweier took on communion lessons, baptisms, weddings and funerals. Nevertheless, the dispute between Schuttenbach and Schöllbronn continued. In 1961 Schluttenbach got its own church, "Maria Königin". In 1995 59.8% Catholics, 22.6% Protestants and 16.6% others lived in the village.

Landmark: The Schluttenbacher Linde , shortly after entering the village, with the Lindenbrunnen is the most important landmark. The linden tree is around 1000 years old and the fountain (actually a spring) was first mentioned in Schöllbronn village law from 1485. There used to be the old oak tree near the village. It was hollow to a height of 18 feet, but had massive branches. It housed around 50 pigs and a shepherd when it rained, or 52 school children. When the weather was mild, the village shoemaker worked in the oak. It coincided on Ascension Day 1847 between 2 and 3 a.m.
