The narrow-leaved white cup ( Nierembergia linariifolia ) is a species of white cup ( Nierembergia ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). This species is very variable and was previously divided into several species.

features

The narrow-leaved white cup is a perennial plant with lignified base that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The stem is erect or ascending. The sheets are linear to lanceolate and less than 3.5 millimeters wide. The flowers have a maximum diameter of 2.5 centimeters, are white or purple in color and can be found individually on the stem nodes. The flower stalks are 1.5 to 16 millimeters long. The corolla tube is 6.5 to 16.5 millimeters long.

Flowering time is from June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The narrow-leaved white cup occurs in southern Brazil , Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay in forest fringes and hedges.

use

The narrow-leaved white cup is used as an ornamental plant in summer borders, as a pot plant and on balconies. It is often cultivated as an annual . This species has been in culture since the first half of the 19th century.
