The butterfly house in Elbauenpark is a butterfly zoo within the Elbauenpark in Magdeburg .

investment

In the butterfly house on the north side of the park, between 200 and 300 butterflies from around 25 species are shown on 360 m². The butterflies are obtained as pupae from a British farm, but some are also raised themselves and then hatch in a showcase that visitors can see. The house has a tropical climate of 28 to 29 degrees Celsius with a humidity of 90%. The interior design is also based on the tropics. In addition to numerous tropical plants, there is a small watercourse over which a wooden bridge leads. In addition to the park entrance fee, no entrance fee has to be paid to visit the butterfly house. However, only 50 visitors can enter the showroom at the same time.

history

The butterfly house was opened in August 2000, so it did not exist when the park opened for the 1999 Federal Horticultural Show . The subsequent purchase of a further attraction was a reaction of the park management to the significantly reduced number of visitors after the end of the Federal Garden Show. The operator of another butterfly house in the region, the alaris butterfly park in Wittenberg , protested unsuccessfully against the publicly subsidized new butterfly house because of the distortion of competition.

Animals

Of butterflies are held among others Blue Morpho , Indian Journal , Asian Komet , Atlas silk moth , cutworm , Baumnymphe , Scarlet Knight , Green dovetail and emerald dovetail .

In addition to butterflies, some other insects such as the leaf insect are also kept. But also reptiles such as the day gecko and some birds, for example Chinese dwarf quails and diamond pigeons, live in the butterfly house.
