Snap, land, river! is a card and word game by the Israeli game designer Haim Shafir , which was published by Amigo in 2002 . The game for two to six players, ages eight and up, takes around 15 minutes per game and is based on the well-known quiz game City, Country, River .

Theme and equipment

In snap, land, river! As in the example of city, country, river , the players try to find terms in different categories for given letters as quickly as possible. The categories are given by appropriate cards and the available letters by open cards in a display.

In addition to instructions, the game material consists of 33 category cards and 55 letter cards.

Style of play

Before the game, the two decks of cards are shuffled separately. The pile with the category cards is placed face down as a draw pile in the middle of the table. 12 cards are drawn from the letter cards and dealt face up on the table. A player is selected who, as the game master, reveals the category cards.

The game itself can be played in different variants. There is a variant in which only one player can win one card per category, and one in which each player tries to get as many letter cards as possible per category.

One wins

In the "One wins" variant, only one player can win one letter card per category. At the beginning of each round, the game master reveals a category card and all players try to form a suitable term starting with one of the letters on display as quickly as possible. A player who wants to name a suitable term hits the corresponding letter card with his hand and says his term aloud. If he is the first and the term is correct, he wins the card. If several players are equally quick, they have to play a jump-off with the next category. If a player mentions a term that does not match, he is no longer allowed to participate in this round and must hand over a letter card that he has already won. If nobody can think of a term, a new category is revealed.

Won letters are not replaced, so the game lasts 12 rounds. It ends when the last letter card has been won. In the evaluation, each player receives one point for each blue letter won and two points for each red letter. The winner is the player with the most points.

Snap as much as you can

In the variant "Snap as much as you can" each player can win several letter cards per category. As in the standard variant, a player has to hit a card and name a suitable term in order to win it. However, each player can win letters one after the other as long as they are on display and concepts occur to him.

Won letters are not replaced, so the game lasts 12 rounds. It ends when the last letter card has been won. In the evaluation, each player receives one point for each blue letter won and two points for each red letter. The winner is the player with the most points. After the round, another 12 letter cards are laid out and a new category is played.

The game ends after the round, after which all letters have been distributed. The winner is the player with the most points.
