Rapid firearm

A rapid fire weapon is basically any firearm whose rate of fire ( cadence ) is higher than that of a single-shot weapon. Originally, this also included the first multi-shot breech-loading rifles , even if they can be repeated manually . Later on, each self-loader was referred to as a rapid-fire weapon against these weapons.

Today, however, only fully automatic weapons are usually referred to as automatic weapons. These include (in increasing strength):

In the case of artillery, there are also rapid fire guns , a term that originally meant guns to be loaded manually, just like with handguns . Modern ship artillery is self-loading and partly also fully automatic.
