history

The first school building to be erected near the village square was a low German special-purpose hall with a thatched roof. The Schoolkat in two-stand construction was a teacher's apartment and had a classroom in the northern back side for teaching. The large gate of the school house points to the west, to Nortorfer Strasse. In the lintel of the gate is notched: “ANNO 1764 + AM 27 MERTZ + IS THIS SCHULHAUS + BUILT +” - A stump of a beam shows the year 1765, probably the end of the interior work. Today the listed serves Kate as Village Museum, managed by the 1994 founded cultural and museum association.

Others

The Schoolkat is an official branch of the registry office and can be used for weddings.

Organizational matters

The museum is run by a museum association that regularly organizes cultural events there. It is open every Sunday afternoon from July to September.
