The Schott Melghir ( Arabic شط ملغيغ), also Chott Melrhir , is a lake that regularly dries up except for small pools, a bulkhead , in north-east Algeria and, when the water level is high, in small parts in mid-west Tunisia . At -40 m, it is the deepest depression in Algeria.

It is located south of the Atlas Mountains in the Sahara lowlands and is mainly fed by the Wadi Djedi . Its largest extension area forms an alluvial sedimentary basin , which connects to the Sahara table country in the south .

To the west of it lies the Rir Valley . It is located 103 km southeast of the town of Biskra and 129 km northeast of Touggourt .
