The Alte Brauhaus is located in the Fallersleben district of Wolfsburg and was built as a brewery in 1765 .

Building description

The building before the fire, 2005
A few weeks after the fire, 2007

The mighty two-storey building with the dimensions of 14 m × 38 m was made from rubble stones . It stands on a barrel-vaulted storage cellar. The massive impression is reinforced by the high, four-story mansard roof into which dormer windows are embedded. They were used to ventilate the building's grain floors. The brewery belonged to the domain of the castle for a long time . Today it is privately owned and serves as a restaurant where beer ( Fallersleber Schlossbräu ) is brewed.

history

The brewery was built in the 18th century by the Fallersleben community in the immediate vicinity of Fallersleben Castle. The reason for the construction of the mighty building was the state-run brewing and distillery industry , which had flourished during this time. In 1915 the use as a brewery was given up. After years of vacancy, renovation was carried out in 1986/87 and today's brewery opened in March 1987 .

On July 28, 2007 at around 6 p.m. there was a major fire in the old brewery for an unexplained cause , whereby arson was ruled out. The fire had broken out in the listed mansard roof. This completely destroyed the four-storey roof and collapsed. Only the stone walls of the lower storey remained of the building. The restaurant housed in it was destroyed by the fire fighting water. Shortly after the fire, clearing-up work began with clearing away the debris from the roof. A support structure was added to preserve the 18th century chimney. After the fire ruin had been rebuilt, the brewery was reopened in May 2008.

Others

The brewery is a member of the Brauring , a cooperation between private breweries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
