The Ehrenbreitstein inclined elevator is an inclined elevator to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz . It was opened in 2011, is located in the Ehrenbreitstein district and connects the Mühlental with the east side of the fortress at the level of the Großer Traverse and the fortress church. This means that the fortress and the youth hostel there are barrier-free . The Ehrenbreitstein chairlift operated from 1955–2009 at the same location .

history

The Ehrenbreitstein inclined elevator was put into operation on the occasion of the Federal Horticultural Show 2011 on April 15, 2011 after a ten-month construction period. The construction costs amounted to around 2.5 million euros, financed by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economics , the sponsoring association EVM / Thüga , BUGA Koblenz 2011 GmbH and the city of Koblenz.

The rock plateau has been directly accessible from Koblenz on the left bank of the Rhine since 2010 with the Koblenz cable car . This relieves the inclined elevator from the tourist flow. The main function of the inclined elevator is to relieve the guests of the youth hostel from heavy luggage in order to reach a car-free fortress.

Technical specifications

The panoramic glazed inclined elevator of the type Twinliner from the Austrian company ABS Transportbahnen GmbH ( Doppelmayr Group ) from Wolfurt holds 25 people with a payload of 1875 kg. The hourly transport capacity is around 240 people per direction. The route is 260 m long, the difference in altitude is 94 m and the maximum incline is 27 degrees . The travel time in each direction takes about 3 minutes at a speed of 2 m / s (7.2 km / h).

The cabin runs on two rails, which stand on supports with a distance of about 12 m. It is attached to five ropes, whereby only one rope can hold the entire load for safety. In an emergency, a safety brake can bring the car to a standstill even without a power supply. The chassis with lateral guide rollers and counter rollers prevents the cabin from being lifted off the rails. The doors are equipped with type- tested door locks.
