The Schrotholzkirche Wespen is a Protestant church in Wespen in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture / history

The church building is built in the form of the scrap wood churches and is the only shingle-roofed scrap wood church in Germany. The small church, built from logs in block construction on a rectangular floor plan, was built in 1687. It was built by exiles from Bohemia who settled in Wasps .

A roof turret clad with wooden boards is located above the western gable as a church tower . The eastern end of the nave is polygonal .

From 1994 onwards the church was extensively restored. Plastering that was done in the past was removed again.

Interior

The nave has a flat wooden ceiling. There is a gallery on the west side . Noteworthy is an eight-sided baptismal font from the late Gothic period and the remainder of an altarpiece from around 1700, which depicts a carved crucifixion group against a painted background .

There are two out in the church sandstone made epitaphs . One for Johann Matth. Who died in 1726 . Lichtenfeld , the other from 1730 for the Ritter couple . The latter has the allegories of death to the side of the inscription panel.

environment

The church is a little raised in the middle of the village. The village pond is to the southeast. To the southwest of the entrance is a war memorial for the citizens of Wasps who fell in the world wars of the 20th century. A historical tombstone has been placed in front of the war memorial.
