Shterjo Atanasov

Schterjo Atanassow , real name Atanassow Schterjo Georgiev ( Bulgarian Щерю Атанасов ; born March 14, 1902 in Lyubimez ; † March 24, 1967 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician, officer and military historian.

Life

Atanasov joined the Bulgarian Communist Party (BKP) in 1923 and took part in the September uprising that same year . In 1925 he went into exile in the Soviet Union . He attended a political college there and worked for the Comintern . From 1936 to 1939 Atanasov was active on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War . During the Second World War he fought for the Soviet Union and for the Bulgarian partisans.

After the Bulgarian Communists took power in Bulgaria on September 9, 1944, he became political deputy of the 1st Army of the Bulgarian People's Army . Atanasov dealt with military history and contributed to the publication of several military history works.

He was awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov as a hero of socialist work .
