The Schubertgrund is a protected part of the landscape in the area of ​​the city of Lichtenstein in the district of Zwickau in Saxony .

The Schubertgrund is located in the western part of the city of Lichtenstein. It covers an area of ​​42.6 hectares between the outskirts of the city and the bypass of federal highway 173. The area is 200 to 300 m wide and over 1.5 km long. The vegetation is a baumhöhlen- and waste wood rich mixed forest , mainly from oaks , beeches and hornbeams with occasional sycamore , maple , birch and other trees.

A total of 36 bird species were recorded in 2017 when the inventory was taken on the occasion of an intended thinning . These included the strictly protected species of kingfisher , green woodpecker , buzzard and tawny owl .

In addition to the established amphibian species common frog and common toad , occurrences of pond newt and mountain newt were also to be expected in the numerous ponds .

Instead of the deforestation planned in 2017, tree care measures have been carried out in Schubertgrund since 2019 with the participation of the BUND local group.

As early as 1993, the city council passed a statute on the protected landscape component "Schubertgrund", which was replaced in 2002 by a new version.

The main protective purposes of the protected landscape component were the "securing, preservation and development of the characteristic landscape and the biotopes enclosed therein, the safeguarding and improvement of the green belt and the chain of ponds in the western part of the city for recreational purposes, the securing and preservation of the typical plant communities and locations of Plant species, the safeguarding and preservation of habitats for animals, the preservation and development of the area for reasons of ecology and biotope networking, the preservation of the contiguous undeveloped area for climatic reasons to guarantee the climate stability and the air exchange (fresh air production), the safeguarding of the areas as potential drinking water catchment area and the preservation of the naturally grown soil as a natural body and its biological functions in the natural balance ”.

  • Reiterholzel
  • Rödlitzaue
  • Schubertgrund.
