The school building Lange Reihe 81 in Bremen - Walle , Lange Reihe 81 was built until 1929 and has been a listed building in Bremen since 1984 (without a rear extension) .

history

The new school building

The former Lyceum des Westens was built from 1927 to 1929 according to the design of the Bremen Building Authority under the direction of senior building officer Hans Ohnesorge and according to plans by building officer Karl August Öhring and architect Johannes Ernst Windrath. The elongated, four-storey, cubic building corresponded to the style of the interwar period. In the center of the two wings of the building is a massive, tower-like component. The facade has a clinker masonry with high-quality decorative ornamentation and ceramics from the Kiel ceramic workshops .

The sculptures are by Heinrich Lange. The fountains in the stairwells are by Ernst von Wachold.

Change in uses

Lyceum

The lyceum was a kind of secondary school for girls. Since 1938 it was called the Secondary School for Girls in the West . During the Second World War there was a flak observation post on the tower .

Pedagogical College

After the war, there was a need to found a teacher training college in Bremen. In the summer of 1947, the newly founded University of Teacher Education Bremen (PH) started operations at the school on Vegesacker Strasse in Bremen-Walle. Shortly afterwards, in 1947, she was able to begin provisional teaching in the former lyceum. The first phase of the PH was completed by 1950. From 1971 to 1974 the technical and spatial integration of the college of education into the University of Bremen followed .

High school and vocational school center

The school building served as the local school after 1974 and took up the upper level of the Gymnasium am Waller Ring , which at that time was the only gymnasium in the west of Bremen with over 1000 students .

In 1979 the high school on Waller Ring was divided into two schools as a result of the major school reform. The lower secondary level remained in the old building, and the Schule an der Lange Reihe became an independent school center for the secondary level II . Today the Walle school center consists of three locations and has its main location here.
