The building of the school on Steffensweg , today General Vocational School (ABS), in Bremen , district Walle , district Steffensweg , Steffensweg 171 / Bremerhaven road , built according to plans of building officer Hugo Weber . This building has been a listed building in Bremen since 1984 .

The school was named after the street and this after the church of St. Stephani , to whose church district Walle used to belong and to which the street led.

history

Between 1892 and 1916, 25 new schools were built in Bremen. In the west of Bremen, the population doubled at the beginning of the 20th century. Several new schools were built.
The free schools Elisabethstraße (1896) and Schule am Pulverberg (1901), as well as the elementary school on Steffensweg (1905), school on Vegesacker Straße (1911),
elementary and secondary school on Waller Ring and elementary school Helgolander Straße (1916) were built in central Walle .

This three-storey elementary school from 1905 was planned and implemented in the reform style by the Building Inspectorate Bremen (later the Building Department Bremen ). The building is partly equipped with a hipped roof , has a red clinker brick facade and two distinctive risalits with rounded tail gables . A much later single-storey extension disrupts the overall impression in terms of design.
The free elementary school was converted into a vocational school in 1934.
