The Schulenburg is a restaurant in Hattingen on the Schulenberg south of the old town. It is not far from the Bismarck Tower in Hattingen .

history

In 1902, the city council of Hattingen decided to build the Schulenburg forest restaurant in the schools mountain forest . After a year of construction, Schulenburg was opened by Mayor Carl Eigen on May 22, 1903. In 1906 the baroque hall was added, with a ceiling height of around 10 meters.

Peter Reichert from Bochum took over the management of the hotel and restaurant. The following years, also due to the economic crisis of the 1920s , were characterized by a high change of tenants. During the Second World War , the property was used by the Reich Labor Service as an emergency warehouse, among other things.

In September 1956 major renovations were carried out, in particular the large ballroom and the castle cellar. The Manns got on as tenants and now used the property as the Hotel-Restaurant Haus Schulenburg . The hall was now used extensively for weddings. In 1958, under the management of the Wegmanns, the house became known across the country's borders. Business leaders and politicians like Willy Brandt visited the Schulenburg.

In February 1987 the house was recognized as a monument. From February 1998 the Hornung family took over the house as tenants. The monument has been privately owned and used since 2001 .

In 2015, the Schulenburg restaurant was featured in the documentary soap Mein Lokal, Dein Lokal on Kabel1 .
