The Art Fashion Design Autumn Street in Vienna is a Federal College for fashion and artistic design , which was founded in the 1874th It offers educational opportunities for various forms of design in the fields of fashion, arts and crafts . In addition to graduation with a matriculation examination , the commercial, technical and artistic training provides the prerequisites for practicing craft and trade .

history

The Vienna World Exhibition of 1873 gave the impetus for the establishment of the Imperial and Royal Art Embroidery School (1874), which was later attached to today's Museum of Applied Arts . Crafts and industry should receive new impulses from trained specialists.

At a time when emancipation was still in its infancy, school paved the way for women into the professional world. The new school form soon had an international reputation and was widely imitated in the other crown lands.

The kk Zentral-Spitzenkurs, founded in 1879, became particularly important. At the world exhibition in Paris in 1900 , the lace made in the new style ("Austria lace") achieved great success. A long-term collaboration with the Wiener Werkstätte followed. Quch Dagobert Peche, one of the most important designers of this institution, designed numerous lace.

In 1910 the kk art embroidery school, the kk central top course, a technical school for linen goods production, a tapestry, restoration and weaving school were combined to form the kk central teaching institution for women’s trade. The school conglomerate was later supplemented by an educational institute for female trade teachers, which ensured an income for girls and women in the subsequent difficult economic times.

The location of this early school center was the vocational school building in Mollardgasse in the 6th district. Serious bomb damage made it necessary to move to Ottakring, to the home of the Czech Komensky school association in Vienna's 16th district in 1945.

In 1975 the Herbststrasse opened next to the three-year technical school for fashion the first years of the higher education institute for fashion and clothing technology and the higher education institute for artistic design. The school carries on the traditions of the Imperial and Royal Art Embroidery School, supplemented by the training offer also aimed at male young people in the areas of wood (furniture and sculpture), metal (jewelry design, small sculpture and everyday design), ceramics (product design and plastic), embroidery (textile surface design) , Textile printing (direct and indirect printing techniques) and weaving (knotting and weaving techniques).

The training offer is supplemented by college forms (jewelry • design and fashion • design • textiles) for high school graduates and the master school for fashion (stage costume and haute couture).

building

The building of the “Czech Komensky Secondary School” at Herbststrasse 104 was rebuilt in 1923–27 by the Austro-British architect Michael Rosenauer (1884–1971). The Art Nouveau is retained.

During the renovation between 1980 and 1986, according to the plans of architect Ilse Koci, the usable area is doubled.

School profile

In addition to general education, the focus of the lessons is solid technical, artistic and economic training, supplemented by the development and promotion of management skills, life skills and independent work in project teams. The concept of multiple qualifications should enable individual professional flexibility. The educational content and focus are continuously adapted to changes in the professional world.
