Schummel Hummel is a card game that was released by Drei Magier Spiele in 2017 . The game was developed by Emely and Lukas Brand, the children of the game designer couple Inka and Markus Brand . It is based on the card game Mogel Motte , which they also developed , but differs from it in a different game mechanism.

Style of play

The game Schummel Hummel is based on the card game Mogel Motte and its basic style corresponds to various discarding games such as Mau Mau or Uno , in which the aim is to put all the cards in your hand on a discard pile. As with its predecessor, the specialty of Schummel Hummel is that cheating is expressly provided for in the game. The game material consists of a deck of cards with a total of 82 cards. Of these, 38 are flower cards without insects, 10 cheat bumblebees and 34 action cards (7 spiders and 5 spider webs, 6 wasps, 4 pollinator bees, a pollen card, 5 butterflies, 5 grasshoppers) and a guard worm. With the exception of the pollen card, all cards have a flower image at each of the four corners.

Game flow

At the beginning of the game the 5 grasshoppers, the pollen card and the guard worm are sorted out. One of the players receives the Guardian Worm and places it with the side without the telescope facing up in front of him. One grasshopper is placed face up between two players and the rest are removed from the game. The pollen card goes in the middle of the table. All other cards are shuffled and each player receives eight cards face down, the remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the game. The top card is removed and placed face up next to the pile. If it is an action card, only the flower images count.

Beginning with the starting player who has the guard worm, the players can now take turns to put individual cards on the discard pile. The stored card must always match one of the colors of the flowers displayed in a color of its flower representation. If a player cannot discard a suitable card, he must draw a card from the draw pile, but then cannot discard any more cards. If the draw pile is empty, the discard pile is shuffled and discarded as a new draw pile. During the entire game, all players with the exception of the player with the guardian worm are allowed to cheat and to make cards disappear as inconspicuously as possible. However, the hand of cards must always be held over the table and only one card may be cheated away at a time. The last card from hand must never be cheated away. If a player has been caught cheating, cheating may not be carried out during the time of clarification.

The task of the player with the guard worm is to watch other players and to catch them cheating. If he catches a teammate cheating, he shouts “Caught!” And it is clarified whether this player has actually just cheated. If this is the case, the player has to take the card he wanted to cheat back into hand and receives one of his hand cards from the guard, he also receives the guard worm and is the new guard. If a player is wrongly accused, the guard has to draw a penalty card from the draw pile and remains the guard. The cards with the cheat bumblebee may never be passed on to other players and only the respective player with the guard worm may put them on the discard pile; to get rid of them, all other players must cheat.

In the game there are several action cards with different motifs as well as a total of ten cards with a cheat bumblebee. The action cards are played normally, but then have different functions:

map function
Cheat bumblebee Cannot be stored or given away and counts 10 minus points at the end of the game, so you should cheat it away quickly. Only the player with the guard worm can put a cheat bumblebee on the discard pile.
Wasps There are three wasps with and three without a sting. If a wasp is placed on the shelf without a stinger, all players except the player who played must hit the card as quickly as possible. The slowest player receives a card from all the others. If it is a wasp with a stinger, the first one who hits it receives a card from all other players.
Spider
and cobweb
The spider web can be placed on any card. If a player lays down a spider web, the next player must place a spider or draw a card; then it is the turn of the next player. This continues until a player can lay a spider.
butterfly If a player plays a butterfly, he can designate another player who must draw a random card from his hand and keep it. It can also be a cheat bumblebee.
Pollinator bee When a player lays a pollinator bee, he calls "pollination" and takes the pollen card in the middle. He tries to throw the card at another player within the next three seconds. The discarded player must draw two cards from the draw pile. If no player is hit, the game continues as normal. Cheating is not allowed during pollination.
grasshopper The grasshopper cards lie between two players and they must be careful not to steal the card from them. If it is stolen by the neighbor, the stolen player has time to complain until the next card is played. If the theft is not noticed, the stolen player must draw two cards.

The game ends when a player has no more cards in hand and has been able to discard his last card. This player has won the round, for all other players the minus points are evaluated using the cards in hand. Each flower card is worth one minus point, action cards are worth 5 minus points and a cheat bumblebee is worth 10 minus points. In the next round the player becomes the new starting player alongside the starting player of the last round.
