Weak point analysis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under vulnerability assessment refers to organizations ( companies , public administration ) the study of a process and / or process flow in order to identify weaknesses and deficiencies .

General

The structure and process organization can deviate from the originally existing ideal condition due to the most varied of internal and external environmental conditions and thereby create weak points. The weak point analysis therefore pursues the goal of discovering and eliminating existing weak points as part of the work system optimization. The discovery of weak points is the task of the organization department or the auditing department , but other employees can also report deficiencies they have identified as part of the company suggestion system . The weak point analysis is a permanent process, because new weak points can arise again at any time due to the dynamics in organizations. Weak point analyzes for office work show that the principles of division of labor are to be seen as the cause of the low productivity of office work. Similar results emerge from analyzes of the profitability of the use of information technology in the administrative sector .

procedure

It begins with an analysis of the current situation, in which the weaknesses that have been discovered are presented. In a second step, the actual analysis is compared with an optimized target state, the aim of the weak point analysis. A third step deals with the risk assessment of individual vulnerabilities and risk carriers , whereby only those vulnerabilities remain that represent a potential threat of loss or damage . This has to be eliminated in a further phase.

The optimization steps can basically be divided into procedural (additional or changed mechanization of process sequences) and organizational possibilities (changed work planning and / or execution).

Analytical methods

Structured analysis , SWOT analysis , Failure Mode and Effects Analysis or the Ishikawa diagram are available as analysis methods . It also draws on the findings of the Theory of Constraints .
