history

Former company logo

The oldest forerunners of Black Forest milk was the “Freiburg Milk Cooperative” founded in 1876, the “Freiburg Milk Farm” from 1916 and “Hildweins Milchvertrieb”. On March 6, 1930, these three companies were merged into "Breisgau Milchzentrale GmbH", whose main purpose was to supply the Freiburg population with dairy products. In 1930 around 9.2 million liters of milk were supplied to the company, and twenty years later 15 million liters of drinking milk and over 9 million liters of milk products were produced.

After the end of the Second World War, further cooperatives and processing companies in the south-west of Baden-Württemberg were gradually taken over. In 1961/62 the name was changed to “Breisgau-Milch”, and from 1969 a stylized cowbell was the company's trademark.

In 1981 "Breisgau-Milch" took over almost all of the shares in "Schwarzwaldmilch GmbH" in Offenburg, which was founded in 1932, but left both names and brands as the two parts of the corporate group.

In March 2010 the Breisgau-Milch label fraud was accused because the milk for the product "Black Forest Butter" and four other products came from the Allgäu and was also processed there. The products were advertised with the label "Our cows make the best Black Forest milk from fresh grasses and meadow herbs from the Black Forest highlands, which we process gently."

In December 2010 the "Breisgau-Milch" was renamed Black Forest milk , the trademark became the Bollenhut . Since then, the company has been divided into the two locations Freiburg (focus on dairy products) and Offenburg (focus on milk powder).

The newly founded subsidiary "Black Forest Nature GmbH" wants to bring oat milk to the market in the first quarter of 2020 .

Andreas Schneider has been the managing director since October 1, 2013.

The Schwarzwaldmilch group is also the main sponsor of SC Freiburg .
