The black and white slim cichlid ( Julidochromis transcriptus ) is a cichlid from Africa that was discovered by Hubert Matthes in 1959 .
Occurrence and habitat
Julidochromis transcriptus is endemic and inhabits the rocky shores of Lake Tanganyika . The water temperature is 24–26 ° C. In addition, the water is slightly basic ( pH 7.5–8.0).
features
The length of the fish is approx. 7 cm, making it the smallest member of its genus . The genital papilla of the male is larger than that of the female.
Sexual Behavior and Brood
The female only lays a few dozen eggs in a cave, whereupon the young hatch after a three-day incubation period . The fry spend a long time in the vicinity of the spawning area .
