Schwatzgelb.de (own spelling schwatzgelb.de) is a fanzine about Borussia Dortmund . It is one of the largest of its kind in Germany.

Scope of the fanzine

The magazine appears on the Internet and is updated daily. It publishes reports about BVB and, in addition to the German-language main page, also has an English-language section for fans from abroad. The publisher of the fanzine is Schwatzgelb.de eV, the authors of the site are volunteers for the project.

With an editorial team of ten, schwatzgelb.de appeared for the first time for the 2000/01 Bundesliga season in order to provide BVB fans with a platform for exchanging information and opinions and to critically examine what is happening at Borussia Dortmund. It was always important for the participants to illuminate not only the sporting, but also the social side of football. The magazine and its editorial team have grown steadily to this day.

According to its own information, Schwatzgelb.de reaches an average of 50,000 visitors per day and, in addition to reports, comments, videos and photos on current events at Borussia Dortmund, also offers interviews with players and those responsible for the club, a comprehensive statistics section, a chat and the BVB forum probably the largest discussion platform for BVB fans. The fanzine cooperates with the association and is accepted as a medium; it has press accreditation for the stadium and training grounds. There are also collaborations with regional and national periodicals such as the football magazine 11 Freunde . Renowned media such as Die Welt or the FAZ draw on the views of the schwatzgelb.de editorial team on issues relating to Borussia Dortmund . Acting as a fanzine itself is also repeatedly the subject of media coverage, most recently in an interview with WestfalenSport magazine.

In addition to the daily offer on the Internet, free print editions of schwatzgelb.de appeared in September 2004, April 2007 and May 2008 with an increasing circulation of 5,000, 8,000 and most recently 12,000 copies.

In September 2016, a print edition with a circulation of 20,000 was published in cooperation with "bodo - Das Straßenmagazin". The magazine was sold in the city and in the stadium by people in difficult social situations. The price was € 2.50, half of which was kept by the seller, the other half went to bodo e. V.

Audio offer

The fanzine has greatly expanded its audio offering over the years.

Amateur radio

Since the home game against the second team of FSV Mainz 05 on August 26, 2014, the Fanzine has been offering an internet radio called amateur radio that requires registration and is approved by the DFB and broadcasts the home games of Borussia Dortmund II . The game against VfL Osnabrück on April 18, 2015 was the first time an away game was broadcast. The game in Münster followed on May 25, 2015 .

The name of the internet radio is deliberately ambiguous. On the one hand, Borussia Dortmund's second team is widely referred to as amateurs , although it has the status of a professional team. On the other hand, the transmission is led by inexperienced and volunteer commentators, also amateurs in this field.

This extensive reporting for the second team was continued after relegation to the Regionalliga West . The fanzine also announced that the registration requirement will no longer apply.

Open ears

In addition to the amateur radio audio stream , schwatzgelb.de has established a podcast called Auffe Ohr , which deals with current affairs around Borussia Dortmund for at least 90 minutes, i.e. one game length. Although the Bundesliga team is mainly dealt with, the second representation and the youth area are also covered in the regular section Switch to Malte . The Auffe Ohr editorial team involves the listeners via social platforms such as Twitter . They answer questions or comment on statements made by others.

floodlights

The social and social commitment of schwatzgelb.de is concentrated under the name flutlicht . Schwatzgelb.de would like to "help those who have got to know the downsides so far."

anniversary

On July 18, 2015, the fanzine celebrated its fifteenth anniversary. Professional player Neven Subotic was invited to the celebration and gave a lecture on the foundation named after him.

In the run-up to the celebration, special articles from 15 years of Schwatzgelb.de in retro design appeared on the fanzine's website. There were also introductions outlining the BVB's situation at the time.

A video was also published in which numerous players congratulated the fanzine on their birthday and in which Borussia Dortmund's press spokesman, Sascha Fligge, underlined the importance that this fanzine has for the club.

Individual evidence

  1. Since most online fanzines are not financed by advertising, overview figures of the accesses, for example via the information community to determine the distribution of advertising media, are not generally available. Comparisons with the numbers of other magazines via Alexa Internet suggest that it is the largest fanzine in the country in terms of the number of hits on the pages.
