Keep quiet, boy!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Keep quiet, boy! is a play by the writer Fitzgerald Kusz .

The premiere of the folk piece was on October 6, 1976 in the Nuremberg theater . Directed by Herbert Lehnert and Friedrich Schirmer .

The eight-person piece is a humorous satirical depiction of a typical, petty bourgeois family celebration on the occasion of a confirmation , at which the adults eat and drink, gossip and argue and the “boy” hardly gets a word on his special day. “Schweig, Bub!” Impresses with its high recognition value of the dialogues, characters and processes.

Kusz himself describes the drama as a folk play and thus places it in Ödön von Horváth's tradition of the renewed folk play, which deliberately distinguishes itself from the trivial folk theater ("Komödienstadel"). The implementation of Horváth's drama-theoretical text Instructions for Use can be done in silence, boy! understand in every detail. It affects the petty-bourgeois staff as well as the use of " educational jargon " and the use of "silence" as a conscious design tool. In Kusz's case, communication between people fails even more than in Horváth's stories from the Vienna Woods - failure becomes, in the title, the program of the drama.

In the original line-up played Johannes Bösiger , Hans Walter Goss, Karl sleeve, Gabriele Kastner, Sofie Keeser , Ute Kilian and Barbara Thummet.
