The Swiss portal for research on the Internet (SPRINT) is a comprehensive information and teaching tool for Internet research. The site, which was launched in January 1997, includes annotated search engine directories, detailed basic texts on research in general and information retrieval in particular, and methodically structured e-learning modules.

history

On the basis of two articles published in 1996 on search methods, search engines and search catalogs in the journals Nachrichten für Documentation and iX Magazin , Bernard Bekavac , then employed as a research assistant at the University of Konstanz , created the first content for web searches , then under the name WWW- Information Science Search Pages .

Until 2013, these pages were regularly expanded with the help of information science students . In 2004 there was a fundamental revision and a significant expansion of the content. Since then, SPRINT has been known under its current name and is based at the Swiss Institute for Information Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Chur . Since 2009, the offer has also included modules for e-learning and training materials for lecturers. And after the last revision, the website was supplemented with the heading "Scientific Search".

Content

The General Internet Search section explains how search procedures, operators and methods work and how best to proceed with a search. Under search engine , users get an overview of the various search engines.

Scientific Search on the Internet is the newest part of SPRINT. It provides information on how scientific search engines work. A special feature here are the detailed profiles of selected services.
